Beltane - May Day

Laburnum

Beltane is the Celtic  May Day,one of the old quarter-days marking  the cycle of the seasons
and the agricultural year.Washing one's face in the May morning dew was said to beautify
the complexion. In ancient Rome it was the festival Floralia dedicated to Flora, goddess of flowers.

This May Day morning my garden is filled with  sunlight and birdsong, and the heady scent of lilac and laburnum.
Lilac

Rhododendron

Clematis

The lush Spring foliage provides perfect cover for a blackbird's nest.

Pathways used by nocturnal visitors : foxes, hedgehogs and neighbourhood cats.

Another  wildlife pathway. The beautiful and fragile Welsh poppy bursts into bloom under a rosemary bush.

Lovely to see your garden Ruby! And now I know the name of the little yellow poppy I also noticed in mine. Isn't this weather amazing!

PS I love the lilacs as we do not have them where I live...

Oh my goodness, it's so lush and beautiful...and warm! Thank you for this visual blessing--a lovely entry into the merry month of May.

The leaves are not yet out on the trees here, and the grass has just turned green, so this is a wonderful foretaste of good things to come. Lilacs, anyway.

Thank you!!Your photos bring Sweet fragrance of Spring to me. I will wash my face in the May morning dew. In Nara, there is a goddess of spring who helps spring flowers bloom beautifully. Charm of flowers are international!! The firs photo reminds me of wisteria which are now in bloom in Nara Park, and one of my favorite.
Have a nice week!!

Is this your garden??? Holy cow, it's gorgeous!

Visualizing wishing one's face in the May morning dew conjures up the image of Thumbelina doing her morning ablutions.

Make that "washing" one's face.
