On an island in the pond, well out of harm's way, a swan patiently sits on her nest (top right). |
Her mate swims around guarding their territory...... |
As she adjusts her position, this Canada Goose is coming too close....... |
Wings flapping he quickly sees off the goose and a mallard. |
Goosanders |
Marsh Marigolds at the water's edge |
Starlings |
Cherry blossom - soon to become nature's confetti. |
"Falling Petals" - acrylic painting on canvas (detail). |

Love the little swan story & all the beautiful spring photos!
Marvelous series of shots!
What an amazingly beautiful place to raise a family!
so very gorgeous they are! love the diamonds on the water in the first shot, too. :)
Hello, awesome post on the swan couple.. The male is great at protecting his mate and eggs.. Beautiful flowers! Wonderful series of photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post.. Have a happy weekend!
Super photos Ruby and I loved seeing the swan on her nest and being so protective. What struck me was how large those twigs are which were used to build it. I would have loved to see them being gathered. Gorgeous flowers also and I thank you so much for sharing them with Today's Flowers. Happy Weekend to you :)
p.s. I also wanted to say how much I loved your painting. It is beautiful!
Wonderful photos of the swans. I also love the cherry blossoms. Have a wonderful weekend, Ruby!
Lovely Goosander pictures.
Beautiful to see your swan photos and I really love your painting, an echo of the cherry blossom colours.
I am sure the geese and mallards now know not to mess with nesting swans!
Your photos are lovely and one has a sense of the beautiful afternoon.
What a great dad! He is so pretty with his wings all ruffled up. I imagine he can be quite forceful in protecting the nest.
So beautiful!
I like the diamonds on the water, all your feathered friends, the Marsh Marigolds, the Cherry blossoms and of course "Falling Petals. Tom The Backroads Traveller
Beautiful Spring! The graceful swans ... The lovely flowering trees ... And your painting is perfect.
Great shots of the swans in action.
We have extensive cherry blossom confetti here in D.C. right now.

A wonderful selection of both bird and flower images.
some how all seems right in the world as i look at your photos. yesterday wandering a mountain road, i saw a large white spot in a far off wet meadow. It was a white swan on a nest like yours!
your painting is soft and lovely, a joy to see.
Your photographs are superb. The cherry trees in their pink splendor are exhilarating. Nice post.
How lovely the swans are as well as the beautiful spring blooms!
Wonderful photos! Oh, how I love that glistening water and the flowering cherry trees!
Have a beautiful May!
My post is about nature's confetti too this week, got to love Mr Swan for taking care of his family so well.
Have a grand week.
Wonderful shots of nesting swans, other birds and flowers.
How lovely to see dazzling swans and pink blossoms.
I've seen how protective swans can be of their nest and babies, wouldn't want to get too close myself.
As much as I love the marsh marigold that grows in a pot in our pond, isn't it a splendid plant in the wild!
You've created a gorgeous collage of the cherry blossoms which are just as pretty when they're covering the ground. The painting is very nice to depict the various colours of spring petals.
Thank you for linking to Mosaic Monday Ruby.
How very lovely!!!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos of he songswans and Canada geese. Love the blooming cherries too.
Such drama on the pond that day, and you managed to capture it like a mini movie for us - very entertaining!
Your painting is exquisite!

LOVE the colours of spring!
Love those gorgeous sun sprinkles on the water and those swans are such gorgeous creatures! Beautiful post...visiting from Mosaic Monday :)
I'm loving these gorgeous swans. Ours are black and, as pretty as they are, it's nice to see a white pair of swans.
Hi,Ruby. Yur painting is very cool. Cherry blossoms scattering is very beautiful. We would say," The storm offalling cherry blossoms.
I enjoyed Swan photos very much. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for stopping by to visit me at Wonderland Woods, as now I have discovered your beautiful blog in return! so much beauty here...thank you for sharing :)
What a magnificent series! Thanks so much for sharing the love up-close with I Heart Macro ♥
All the images are superb, particularly the close up of the goosander, and the angle of the pink avalanche of blossom. By the way, I think I won't be going away for a while yet.

Très belles images !
An exceptional light and great tenderness in the eyes of one that takes photos! I love this canvas painted with acrilic She is cheerful, springlike and fresh!
Excuse me, Ruby, for this very late visit. First of all, I was startled by the sparkling water of the pond and excited what’s going on. The swans, mallards, and the others are so lovely on the blue green water. About two months have passed since the confetti of cherry blossoms. Your painting is a fantasy, I’d like to be drenched in the falling petals. Enjoy your early summer.
