A hive of Small Garden Bumble Bees has established itself in a disused Wren's nesting box under a honeysuckle bush in our garden. This year the wrens are absent, in fact I've seen only one all winter.
The bees are very shy and I have to tap the nest to encourage them to appear. After much buzzing they emerge!
They keep busy all day collecting pollen from a rose bush a few meters from the hive.
The bees flit so quickly from flower to flower that I find it difficult to follow their movements.

Photo by Margaret. Dandelion seed head. Each amazing flower head ingenuously produces around two hundred florets which become tiny airborne parachutes.
This year, because of the cold spring, dandelions appear to have had an extended season. I found these growing on a country roadside last week.
Ready, steady,go! Seed heads about to explode and fly with the wind.
