The cross sections tell quite a story don't they? We just have to be able to read them. Being a tree hugger, I enjoyed this post. Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday Ruby.
i love how the time lines inspired this beautiful painting! so is that some sort of fungus on the logs? made me want to see it closer, but i am like that with mushrooms!
Dear Ruby, The colours and patterns of life... It isn't easy for me to see felled trees...it makes me always sad... Coldplay's 'Swallowed in the Sea' sounds in my ears now :) I hope you're fine and you enjoy a good time! Katrin
So much inspiring beauty! Since I was a small girl, growing up here in northern Minnesota, I loved following the patterns and rings in the firewood my dad cut for us to keep warm. I still do. Posted some photos a few weeks ago here.. http://ourfunwithfive.blogspot.com/2015/02/this-winter.html Lovely post, so happy to stumble upon it! I love that painting as well.
That's brilliant, these lovely photos of patterns on cut wood, and colours too. And then to segue so well into Meg's painting. Do you think she was inspired by wood patterns or was it you who looked at the painting and made a connection with wood patterns? Life and art once again... M xx
Dear Ruby - A wood leaves the trace of its growth so beautiful. To me, the patterns and colors look like maps of unknown world. I’m marveled at these photos; I’d like to take pictures like these.

Wonderful images, it is neat seeing the patterns and lines up close. Thanks for sharing, have a happy week ahead!
Oh the history in that tree - isn't it interesting how red that one tree is?

Nature has such wonderful beauty if we just look. I love these shots.
At the first pic, I was like "Wow, what is this?"
It's amazing how stunning an ordinary thing could look like when you take a closer clearer look. :)
Nice shots!
