Dreaming with Hypnos

Hypnos - Ancient Greek God of Sleep : Painted plaster, life size.
This is the origin of the word hypnosis.

I made this sculpture (or rather he made himself known to me!)  in the 90s while attending a dream sharing group.Wings sprout from his head, and in my depiction the dream bird actually flies through his head.He sends people to sleep by touching their forehead with his wand or fanning them with his dark wings.

For some years he has lived in our guest room. During this time only one person has said they found him scary, and everyone remarks on having slept soundly.

In northern countries the natural world is winding down for the winter months.
Plants are asleep beneath a carpet of decomposing vegetation.

Leaves have left the trees and we can now admire the beauty of spidery dark branches.

Ruby,
What a mysterious depiction of Hypnos!!
I really need his help. I have had a bad insomnia for many years. I wish he came to me and touched me with his wings! Stunning art!

I love bare trees too. When trees are stripped off the all decorations, they show the essence of the true beauty and structure. Yes, I also admire the beauty of spidery dark branches.
Have a great week!

The branches against the skies are beautiful at this time of the year. I didn't know you made sculptures too, your Hypnos I could sleep with I think.

an incredible sculpture! we are in full summer here with scorching heat and rough winds, but the garden is full of colour. it is interesting to look at your winter photographs when winter seems so far off, but as we know, it passes all too quickly. I love those tree silhouettes - they are awesome.

Intriguing sculpture, very powerful. I think it would not only bring dreams but frighten bad ones away as it has a certain benign ferociousness.
Lovely nature shots, I'm particularly taken with the tree weeping against the the soft pink sky.

Yes, I have enjoyed sleeping in Hypnos' presence [I feel that 'sleeping with Hypnos' might sound too familiar!] Lots of benign presences in your house.

Another interesting work of art from Greek myth. The wings would take me to the dreamy world colored in beautiful blue.
The cock pheasant is beautiful. A green pheasant is the Japanese national bird.

The shots of black bare drooping branches against the thin shades of sky look subtle and profound.
Enjoy your winter season, Ruby.

So much beauty found in every season! We were blanketed with almost knee-high snow this past weekend...quite magical...
Your Hypnos is wonderful! I find him whimsical, not scary at all...
Wishing you a glorious day, dear Ruby!
Hugs from across the pond,

Incredibly beautiful, captivating & "hypnotic sculpture". Sad the winter vegetation is dull, drab & dry. The cock pheasant & yellow jasmine do add some life to the scenery.

Your Hypnos has special atmosphere. Maybe we can't create a figure like this. I imagine it air of Scotland's culture.
Pink sky is very beautiful.
Thank you for showing nice things.
