Land Forms and Earth Angels

The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh consists of two Neo-classical buildings,
Modern One and Modern Two.

Modern One above, originally a school, was built in the 1820s and designed by architect William Burn.
Burn designed many churches, private houses and public buildings including
Dawyck House and St.Johns Church.

Reclining Figure by Henry Moore (1898-1986)

The neon sculpture above the columns is by Martin Creed.

Landform by American landscape architect CHARLES JENCKS.

Soni Heights,  Nara Perfecture, Japan.

When I saw this photo (HERE) by my blog friend Cosmos,I was struck by the similarity to Charles Jenck's sculpture at the Gallery of Modern Art. This is Mother Nature's land art!

The building behind the land form and trees is gallery Modern Two.
I'll show this in my next post.

Earth Angels : by Meg Watson (1950-2002) : Oil on canvas.

Nice post, the landscapes look identical indeed, but the real one is always the best of course. The building is very impressive, it is huge with those pillars, like it.

Your photos are just divine, Ruby, and the greens just draw me into the scene. I am wondering how y will translate this serene feeling into you wonderful art.

Oh, I need to have that neon sign for outside my window when I am working... just a little reminder!

Beautiful flows, all.
Odd to have a neon sign over the entrance to that building, but I do like the message it conveys.

Charles Jencks's land sculpture is superb, and so are your photographs, Ruby, especially the reflection shots. The ponds are like mirrors embedded in the earth. The water looks so clear and clean. I wonder if the ponds are intended only as ponds of reflection as I don’t see any aqua plants in them. You have good eyes to find similarity between the natural topography and the landscaping. Have happy days ahead.

What a fascinating contrast of having the modern art within and around such old buildings...I love how unexpected it is! A beautiful place, dear Ruby...and a splendid painting.
How kind of you to visit and see Maya's work...I love that hat too! Those colors! :)
Blessings for a wonderful week...

Rubby,
When I saw the landform designed by Charles Jencks, I also thought exactly what you said. Last November, I wrote a post on Soni Heights. I remembered that similar landscape immediately.
But also I see similarities in the orbits of the planets and his design. By chance, in Cosmos in Cosmoses, I told one of my blog friends in my answer to his comment,
"I remembered what I had heard. Some of the astronauts became very religious after coming back from the universe. "This is a symbolic story", I thought."

Jencks borrowed the design form the cosmos and there he imbued his awe and respect toward Mother Nature transcending the solar system. I mean Mother Nature is the infinite universe.
Your blog inspired me a lot. How interesting your post is !!!
Have a wonderful week.

PS,
This is nothing. I saw another similar landscape of paddy fields in Inabuchi area, in my former post, Nostalgia in Asuka.( In this case, I guess, circle puddy fields have no meaning.)

Hello Ruby,
I'd really like to visit this place in person. Beautiful curvilinear flows! Water reflection is so effective.
Earth Angels seem like magnetic energy of earth.
I love the message of the neon too:)
Sorry for my belated visit. Take good care of yourself,Ruby.

Hi Ruby
What an amazing series of images.Loved the "antebellum" building, sprawling lawns & trees, abundant greenery and the enchanting images in the pond. The oil painting is colorful & exotic.

The roundness of the Moore's work fits perfectly the Neo-classical building. And reflections in Jencks's work are very beautiful in so green ground. And your pictures express that beauty very well.
Have a nice weekend!
