Barley Fields

Barley fields last week  -  East Lothian

On the right the road follows a historic estate boundary wall.
This road leads to a country park created in honour of  the American environmentalist
John Muir who lived in the nearby town of Dunbar until the age of eleven,
when his family emigratrd to America. He would have known this area well.

The wall is probably at least two or three hundred years old.

The Scottish Baronial style mansion encircled by the wall.
This shot was taken from the road and quite a distance away.

Cows in a field adjacent to the house.

Wild Plants

At the edge of woodland in a city park wild plants are in reproduction mode.
At first glance this tangle of Cleavers, Brambles and Nettles looks chaotic but there is
a natural order in place - everything is making the most of its alloted space.

A family of Thistles preparing to release their angel seeds in the wind.

This sturdy16th century wall continues to mark the boundary between
community woodland and Royal Park in central Edinburgh.

Spring Snow

Last week we had quite a lot of snow.
Beautiful at the time, but now swiftly disappearing.

Thankfully we escaped the extremely low temperatures experienced
in other parts of the country.

Princess the explorer on a woodland path.
She is almost invisible in the snow covered landscape.

Today there is slush and mud everywhere so we've decided to stay indoors
.....  dreaming of Spring flowers!

Sketches

Watercolour sketches of water energy.

Starting point - the sea - wind and waves - how this energy feels to me,
and how it engages with my senses.

My painting "Peace flowing"  (detail) - acrylic on canvas (2010).

The painting is long gone but I trust it continues to eminate peaceful energy in its present home.
