A hive of Small Garden Bumble Bees has established itself in a disused Wren's nesting box under a honeysuckle bush in our garden. This year the wrens are absent, in fact I've seen only one all winter. |
The bees are very shy and I have to tap the nest to encourage them to appear. After much buzzing they emerge! |
They keep busy all day collecting pollen from a rose bush a few meters from the hive. |
The bees flit so quickly from flower to flower that I find it difficult to follow their movements. |

Photo by Margaret. Dandelion seed head. Each amazing flower head ingenuously produces around two hundred florets which become tiny airborne parachutes. |
This year, because of the cold spring, dandelions appear to have had an extended season. I found these growing on a country roadside last week. |
Ready, steady,go! Seed heads about to explode and fly with the wind. |
