Busy Bees

A hive of Small Garden Bumble Bees has established itself in a disused Wren's nesting box under
a honeysuckle bush in our garden. This year the wrens are absent,
in fact I've seen only one all winter.

The bees are very shy and I have to tap the nest to encourage them to appear.
After much buzzing they emerge!

They keep busy all day collecting pollen from a rose bush a few meters from the hive.

This rose is one of my favourites but it blooms for only about two or three weeks a year.
We are however compensated by the gift of beautiful oval pendulous fruits which progress from
luscious green to scarlet throughout the season.

The bees flit so quickly from flower to flower that I find it difficult to follow their movements.

And Now We Are Three

We have recently inherited two dogs,Poppy a whippet cross and Princess
a white West Highland terrier. Although our dog Maddy has known them for years and likes

the company, she is not at all familiar with the concept of sharing!

The dogs love this park and woodland,it provides space to run and wildlife paths to explore.

Goodbye Dandelions !

Dandelion seed head.

Each amazing flower head ingenuously produces around two hundred florets which
become tiny airborne parachutes.

This year, because of the cold spring, dandelions appear to have had
an extended season. I found these growing on a country roadside last week.

Ready,steady,go!

Seed heads about to explode and fly with the wind.
